Introducing Notilus Mechs – Simulate Mechanical Systems
Notilus Mechs lets you simulate mechanical assemblies — hinges, articulated joints, and bolted connections — directly inside Rhino. The typical workflow follows four stages:
Select the geometry pairs and apply nmFixation, nmConcentricity, or nmCoincidence to establish how parts relate to each other. Fixations anchor parts in place; concentricity and coincidence constrain axes and points.
Move the assembly to a desired configuration, then use Save Positions in the Mechs panel to store that state. Repeat for each key position (e.g. open / closed states of a hatch or door).
Use Load Positions to restore any saved configuration instantly. This lets you verify clearances and movement ranges for each state.
Open the bolting library with nmBoltingUI to define standard or custom bolt assemblies. Assign them to joint faces and edit individual bolt properties with nmBoltEdit.
